Snickerdoodles

1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup margarine or butter
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon soda
1/4 teaspoon salt

Sugar and cinnamon, mixed


Heat oven to 400. Mix sugar, margarine, shortening, and eggs in a large mixing bowl. Sift in flour, cream of tartar, soda, and salt. Shape dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into a ball and roll balls in cinnamon and sugar mixture. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake until set, about 8 to 10 minutes. Immediately remove from cookie sheets and put on racks to cool.

If dough seems too soft to roll, place in refridgerator and chill for awhile so it can be handled.
